Probably somewhere between one and ten.
Off topic, is it just me, or does anyone else find questions like this pointless and rather irritating? I mean, who wants to know this kind of information, and why?

As an average from Monday to Friday.
If 100 is the new benchmark, then I have possibly hit it once.
Not exactly off-topic: I am just wondering if other vary their responses, or have a handful of stock phrases ranging from "yes, I really want this job" and "no, this is a job from hell which I would not touch with a bargepole"?

to translate?
If I'm dealing with a client, sometimes a bunch of short e-mails fly back and forth at the beginning of an assignment, but other than that, I thought I was spending too much time at an average of 6-10 e-mails a day. It definitely cuts into my work time.
My work only generates e-mails at the time I take the job on and when I deliver it. I should say that most of my jobs are long, so I don't have frequent contact with clients.

And the majority of them are in Japanese which takes much, much longer to type.
It's a cinch typing in English compared with Japanese which is by far a different kettle of fish -- with 2,000 daily use characters to choose from  and loads of homonyms to make mistakes with. And, don't forget varying levels of politeness depending on the situation.

Sometimes I'm amazed at the number of emails I've sent during the day, especially when dealing with more than one client / new assignment. This does take a lot of time, even though I try to keep these emails down to the "bare necessities".
Fortunately, my friends understand that it sometimes takes time before they hear back from me.

Despite my occasional long posts, I am actually very much in favour of brief pithy e-mails dealing with one point per e-mail. So I send bucketloads of them. I firmly believe that recipients rarely read beyond the first sentence of a communication. Having taken myself as the example, that is!

"Only" about 15-20 per day... (not including non-work emails) but now I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong if I need to exchange emails that often when clearly a good number of my peers don't!
Most of these are "Yes I can do this one" type messages to a couple of regular clients, but all the same, I'm surprised that this seems to be on the high end of the range.

...my work as a translator (and complementary activities) is far more important than spending a minute counting how many emails I send each day.
