It's my office. Isn't that what everybody calls it?

And when we bought our flat, it was a must that I had a separate area to work in, away from everyone.
Does not work all the time, but when I really ave to get stuck into things, then I tell eveyone that I am too busy to "play".
Sometimes I do work in the flat, but I am not quite as productive ....

Actually I have work stations in various rooms.
My main work station is in a corner of the first floor which is the open plan living/dining/kitchen. I don't like to work in complete silence or isolation all the time. I just schedule the jobs requiring that for times no-one else is home or set up camp in another quieter room.

It's a bedroom converted into an office. I've had a dedicated office since before I started freelancing 20 years ago. I also use it while I'm writing (I just published a book), studying, paying my bills, doing e-mail, and hanging out on ProZ. It has two desks, numerous file cabinets, and bookshelves lining the walls. In some countries (e.g. the UK), there are tax implications to using a room in your home exclusively for work - something perhaps worth considering.

with a computer or three, books, drawers, desk, archive boxes, shelving, heating, printer, scanner, 2xUPS, modem, router, networked storage... And a window with a view.
I wouldn't be allowed to have all this mess in the kitchen, the bedroom or the living room.

Nothing exclusive. My main PC/office area is in my open-plan living room-kitchen. I also have a backup PC in the spare bedroom and laptops if anyone wants to work elsewhere, for example on the terrace, in the garden or beside the pool, although I usually prefer to work indoors and only really work outside in summer at night when it gets too hot inside.

It used to be our son's bedroom, but since he has left home and returns occasionally with a wife, they need more space than the little room I have taken over. There is a better view from the guest room, too.

In Denmark the tax considerations are the other way - you cannot claim an allowance if any of your private life so much as crosses the threshold... so most freelancers don't try! It's not worth the trouble for the peanuts concerned. ▲ Collapse

Nope, me too! It also doubles as the yoga room. It’s really much more pleasant than it sounds, though. It’s at the back of the house, leading off my bedroom, which acts as a kind of buffer so I don’t hear the rest of the family. My office(wardrobe/yoga room) has a great private veranda as well, so it’s a really nice space.
But, like Diane, I don’t always like working alone. When I’m messing around with formatting, file conversions, basic research etc I’ll often do it in the kitchen for a change of scenery.

In my flat there is a room, where the only things are bookshelves, computer, printer, books, dictionaries. And the only use allowed is: WORK.
Any other activities is carried out somewhere else, although sometimes I use it to keep "Santa's gifts", cause children have learnt a very important message: access forbidden!
