what is meant here?
If this is refering to Skype, then everyone that has my Skype name can see that I am online. I have no idea what other sort of information I should make public to anyone??

On here, for example, I think my contact details (e-mail address, telephone no., etc.) are available only to potential outsourcers. My business landline number is accessible online if you know where to look and I tell nobody my skype login! | | | | | Some details | Apr 30, 2013 |
The whole point of putting myself online is because I want people to give me work. Therefore, I include enough details for potential customers to contact me. Usually this is just email, as that is the best way to contact me anyway. I only give my Skype ID or phone number if it is requested for a specific purpose. My home address is for family and friends only (and the tax man, I suppose!).

Skype by prior arrangement. The rest is there for all to see.
I do take some comfort in knowing that I live in a house without a number, and on a road without a name. | | | | Diana Coada (X) Обединето Кралство Local time: 16:29 португалски на англиски + ... | But of course! | Apr 30, 2013 |

what's the problem if people get to know where I live? In fact, I live in a cool place and sort of brag about it

I live on top of a small mountain on the East side of Kyoto and have a great view of Kyoto City the mountains to the west and some wonderful sunsets. Sigh .... Something to brag about
I disclose just enough contact information with customers so that I'm sufficiently "off the radar" or beaten track but not completely invisible in stealth mode. I also sometimes divulge my cellphone No. to special customers who pay premium rates.

I agree with Michael.
My contact details are only available upon, for valid reasons. After all, there is always the option to contact me through... ProZ.com. | | | | | Some details | Apr 30, 2013 |
My e-mail address and Skype are visible. Home address and phone numbers are not. So, whoever wants to contact me, they can do it. | | | | | Yes, why not? | Apr 30, 2013 |
After all, I'm in business.
No client ever showed up on my doorstep, but if they did, I would probabbly just invite them in.
I don't remember who has my cell phone number, but it is usually turned off and sleeping in my handbag, anyway. | | | | Allison Wright (X) Португалија Local time: 16:29

My cellphone is always switched on and fully charged. All I have to do is remember to take it with me when I leave the house.

Before living here, I lived in a little lost barrio in Buenos Aires, and before that, a cabin in the woods of southern Missouri and before that, a tent in the sawtooth mountain range in Idaho... herding cattle.
I usually keep my address and phone number private. I don't care to much for Skype, so if a client wants it, they can have it.

I am a little more cautious about giving more information after being scammed last year. The scammer mailed me a set of fake money orders, so I withheld the translation (duh). He got really angry and threatened to come to my home. I was angrier, so it was wise of him not to try anything, but I try to be much more careful about those things and I now use a P.O. Box for correspondence.
Adapt and overcome. ▲ Collapse | | | | Muriel Vasconcellos (X) Соединети Американски Држави Local time: 08:29 шпански на англиски + ... | I can understand the concern | May 1, 2013 |
I'm not worried about my clients. However, I live alone in an urban area, and I do understand that if I post my whereabouts for all to see, it's possible that any weirdo with a GPS could could find me and show up at my door. Still, I don't lose sleep over it, and my address can be found on my résumé if you click on the link. | | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Do you keep your contact details visible online? | Trados Business Manager Lite | Create customer quotes and invoices from within Trados Studio
