Sail away from the safe harbor.

enjoy the time!!
BUt mostly clear my office and get other things sorted out first and then if I manage to get out of my office in the cellar, I get things done in the garden:-)

Me too, but in my 4th floor, vertical/container garden.
It's only a couple of meters from my office, but it's like I'm a million miles away.

I like earning my money and while short breaks are welcome I quickly think that that's it. That it has all dried up. And especially in the summer months. In winter I'm not bothered because I just know that more work is in the pipeline.

I will contact new agencies or agencies that have asked me for an updated CV etc. I only write to my direct clients once a year, as they don't put much work my way.
BTW, I don't really consider administration to be work, nor adding terms to my database, that is something that I do at the weekend if need be.

i.e. my first reaction always used to be to feel down and start to worry, and I still do that, but nowadays it only takes me a couple of minutes before I snap out of it and decide to enjoy the free time. I only start to worry if the situation continues for more than a day or two, because that is definitely not the norm.

Depends...each of the mentioned ideas, according to my situation (financial, other).
It depends how long the break is! I always start by enjoying the free time, then I keep myself occupied by clearing my office and doing some administrative work (filing, bookkeeping/accounting, correspondence, etc.) and in the end if it lingers on I cannot avoid feeling a bit depressed and worried though, after 30 years, I know that more work will come my way sooner or later. Just like the weather, it seems that a dry spell is always followed by a downpour…

Basically my reaction to workless days depends on two factors,
1. the duration of this idle phase
2. if there is something else needing attention
In case of 1. is lasting too long, I'd become somewhat worried, but still
attend to 2. e. g. marketing, admin work, or writing.
If it's only a few days, I'll just enjoy the free time, especially in summer.
