I'm passionate about landscape design, and I have earned a certificate as a landscape designer. But I know I could never pursue the profession for several reasons. For one, it pays poorly. Second, at my age, the work is too physical. Third, people don't take care of their gardens, so the effect is either transitory, or else it never happens because by the time the plants mature the garden is a mess.

Actually, being a translator is my fourth career so far in life, so who's to say there won't be a fifth?

Nice question! I pretty often think of becoming an artist (colored pencil artist) and sell my artwork but I am not sure about economic gain I could get through it so never thought about it seriously. So as of now it still remains my hobby!

Translation can make a good second career, especially if you can bring specialist subject-matter expertise (and contacts) with you from your first one.
Although I am not contemplating a career change, I am gradually diversifying into related activities beyond translating.

as answered before,
this is (probably) the last in a long line of different careers. I have done bits and pieces of translating and interpreting for many years but only full-time at it since 2009.
I enjoyed most of my previous careers too, bartender/waiter/cook/artist/ teacher etc... and of course I still enjoy painting and cooking and do a bit of teaching still
Still want to write a novel that gets critically acclaimed!

I'm thinking of embarking on a career in translation after several soul-destroying weeks of editing and proofreading...
The Danes have decided to let companies publish their annual reports in English only from this year, so my previous translation jobs have suddenly turned into editing of dodgy English followed by endless fighting over basic grammar and style issues. Can't wait to get stuck into a decent translation again.

I do not associate myself with my career, and I may do different things one day, and have done a few things in my life--mostly language related. I thought about getting a law degree some years ago, not to change my career--just more out of pure interest.

But I do have a few pipe dreams, one of which is becoming a ski insructor. Still possible in my late 50's.
