That hasn't even crossed my mind yet. Perhaps one day when I have a lot of free time on my hands. A prospective date could be the 12th of Never or February 30th.

I did it a couple of times, but I don't really think it's worthwhile in my case. I prefer to use any spare time I get to tidy up my files in general.

If I have plenty of time, there are several things on my list to do, on the top of them, are this one and the words count per field.

I have used a CAT for so long that I would not want to use my older translations.
However, I have occasionally downloaded texts in two versions and aligned them.
The old WinAlign still works with Trados - I haven't tried the new tool yet.

But I prefer to build up termbases from old glossary lists. Believe it or not, I've been keeping glossaries since I built them with WordPerfect on DOS 6.0.

And I have no intention to do so.
It would be relevant only if I had the same customers and they were making the same or similar products as when I first started using a well-known CAT tool beginning with 'T'.
It would be pointless to do so. I'm a technical translator. The stuff I translated 10 to 12 years ago is pretty much obsolete and past its market shelf life.

Like others, I shudder to think I might find some unexpected skeletons in cupboards that were meant to be left alone. I think this is not the memory lane trip I'd want to take.

Good idea, mate! The wordlists I made for particular customers all those years back, however, are still relevant even now and have lots of currency. BTW, I used FileMaker to make mine. Aaaah, those were the days! ▲ Collapse

I used a different database program (Quattro Pro 4?) that I used for invoices. I learned that skill while working on my first translation/interpreting job in Fresh Meadows, Queens, NYC.
You should hang out with some LinkedIn groups. I just became a member of the Automated Language Translation (MT / Machine Translation). I just sent you a link.
I think I still have a wordlist for some mousetrap documentation I translated back in 1994.

I have glossaries of nearly 100 pages which I use and add to regularly.
I wouldn't dream of aligning old translations. Brings back too many painful memories of when I was head cook and bottle washer in an agency, and anyway CAT tools are of limited use in my fields, even if I do use them when required by an agency.

I was seven... My birthday is in a couple of weeks. I'll by turning 27, which is my mind is almost 30, which is almost old. Thanks for making me feel young again!
