I'm the main breadwinner, but my cat Garabato never touches bread and I seldom eat bread.
Why don't we have better English words instead of breadwinner? It's so archaic, demodé, passé, a word so stale and crusty and rancid as last night's toast.

As it just so happens, we have that same idiom in Portuguese (Brazilian), too. I kind of like it (if you take the bread-for-the-soul approach, that is).

"Bacon bringer-homer" is a synonym for "breadwinner". Does the first sound better than the latter?

Both, my husband and I work full time, my husband is employed at another company. I am the one with the higher income.
The burden is insane (no paid sick days, no paid vacation days...).

Since we both work together on this madness, we both bring home the bacon. I translate a lot more than Gaby, but when she isn't working on her own projects, she's helping me with mine.
No cats here... just the stupid dog. His birthday was yesterday.
