I have selected a project that is challenging, because in my experience I find those projects also enjoyable and I tend to learn something. I tend to feel happy and satisfied after finishing one of those. Boring projects have to pay fairly well for me to accept them at all.

You need an extra option: all of the above, also because some of these factors usually go hand in hand with each other, e.g. a project that is enjoyable is also stress-free.

Not sure if this is feasible, but my answer would be:
- enjoyable
- challenging/ rewarding
- helps people
- develops my knowledge.

3. Gives me knowledge
When I say 'helps people's lives' I'm thinking of the documents I do for international organizations or research articles. It may help a persons life if I translate their c.v. or academic record, but that's only one person and I tend to avoid that kind of work if I can help it.

I hesitated between stress-free and challenging. I really like to be challenged; there's nothing worse than boring projects. But challenges can be quite stressful.
I would never accept a job that wasn't going to give adequate pay, so that isn't really a factor. I have one occasional job that pays incredibly well but is also diabolically boring. I love to see how the money mounts up, but if the client offered really large volumes, I'd reject the work. Life's too short to spend it bei... Glad to see "pays well" heading the rankings so far (albeit only just).
Wouldn't it be great to see that turned into action, with translators being more businesslike and less hippyish and passive. If nobody accepted stupid rates, prices would immediately rise across the board.
In fact, what we need is globally coordinated strike action - and where better to start than here. So let's do it - down tools from Monday!

Sure, I want to be paid fairly.
But I took a major pay cut to become a translator in the first place, and that was primarily a lifestyle choice. There is no way I would ruin this newly discovered work-life balance by becoming entirely income-focused. I made that mistake before and was rewarded with a range of health problems. It's not worth it...

I don't know what's wrong with translating CV's.
I translate a lot of personal documents: birth/marriage certificates, transcripts, diplomas, etc.
I never thought that just because of the personal nature of these documents I am not helping humanity at large.
