Most of my clients are located around the world, except for Africa and, for the time being, Australia.

They can be anywhere. The problem with the "most" kinds of question is that these things shift from month to month and even week to week.

Anyone who lives in Brazil understands my answer.

The average price paid by the local agencies is about 1/3 of the rates regularly paid in W. Europe, USA, Canada and even Israel. The average price paid by the local agencies is about 1/3 of the rates regularly paid in W. Europe, USA, Canada and even Israel. Furhtermore, the constant out-of-standard requirements, in addition to the unprofessional way the agencies treat their translators, are enough to push away all veteran translators and stick to the inexperienced.

Even considering direct clients (big companies), one gets so angry negotiating with these guys, you end up saying "I'd rather waive this money and be in peace". In a recent case, a big company hired my services for a project close-off report. It took us 15 days and 2 (physical presence) meetings to come to an agreement. Then another 15 days to gather all the (absurd amount of) documents the company required to authorize my work. Finally, it took them 90 days to pay me. All that, with taxes that ate away about 40% of my earnings.

So, although I'm Brazilian and lived in Brazil all my life, I have added Brazil to the "black list", along with India and China. I no longer reply requests for quotations from these countries. All my Brazilian clients are either former regular agencies or direct clients by referral from former clients or ProZ.

Equal slit between my continent and another continent. Almost all my clients are based in Europe and the US

My country of residence Aug 3, 2015

Danish clients tend to accept my fees, whereas most potential clients in other countries seem to look for much lower rates, so it's a no-brainer for me.

Of course, there are some hopeful Danish agencies that try to achieve 'foreign' rates, too, but you quickly learn to ignore those...
