I'm a translator at heart and by trade...

but I do not really see the point of this Poll.
In the past I have made quite a few suggestions for polls that were a bit critical with regard to practices of ProZ, why dont those sort of polls get posted?
I know the answer is obvious, but also a shame as some of the staff cannot (do not want to) take any critic

I tried interpreting once and decided never to do it ever again.
As far as I am concerned, translators and interpreters are two completely different animals. I really cannot comprehend how you can be proficient at both.
"And never the twain shall meet." IMHO

I haven't done any interpreting for ages, in fact the last time was probably in 2008, and the job was interesting, a cinema festival (Mostra de Cine de Valencia). I prefer translating anyway, and nowadays it would need to pay really well (and preferably be interesting too) before I would consider doing it again. I kind of agree with Julian, I don't think there can be many people who are equally good at both.

I was lucky to go 'direct,' now I work both as translator (1/3) and an interpreter (2/3).
With the exception of a few events, I really prefer to meet people and make new contacts (and friends), let alone it's so refreshing and better paid)

Did some interpreting over the years, but definitely prefer translating. And teaching Hebrew !
There seems to be quite a number of language teachers among the language professionals, but no way to advertise it on ProZ.

Of course, these are different professions. And language teaching and desktop publishing are also different professions. Incidentally, medical workers have much more "different professions" in their domain. However, quite a few people do manage to combine. In my opinion, however, this means combining two different professions, not being a full-fledged specialist in one. A one who combined translating, interpreting and teaching may as well be an excellent violinist or journalist or else, etc.

I'm far too introverted to be an interpreter. You have to be full of your own gusto, and unfortunately I'm not.

Since my introversion is a chronic case, I enjoy being a translator and typesetter instead.

I design Spanish information.
Think about it: a translator writes translations but chances are she's not that interested in designing or shaping how that translation looks to the reader. I do.

Agreed in both instances. I don't feel comfortable in churning out verbal statements and not being able to go over them, again and again, before moving on to the next chunk. I often get bogged down and can't move on, but my revision work is usually straightforward because of that.

I actually proposed a poll a few months ago on whether we were introverts or extroverts etc, but it got ignored.
