I’m not a language trainer and I have never given language lessons (with the exception of French lessons to two of my granddaughters) either in person or via Skype (or any other electronic means for that matter).

I enjoy translation much better, and fortunately have enough work with that.

I do have a teaching degree, among other things, with advanced specialization and post-graduate training in second language teaching. I can see possibilities. What I would hate to see (and do see) is dabbling in language teaching just because somebody is bilingual, just like dabbling in translation is not a nice thing to see. A medium such as Skype does not make someone an instant teacher, just like having a typewriter or word processor does not make someone a writer or translator.

I study music as an extra activity, and have done a fair amount of remote work via Skype, private Youtube channel, the sending of sound bytes. So yes, I can see the same used for language teaching. ▲ Collapse

I used to train via Skype, but in the G1 era it was rather disappointing, to put it mildly. Occasionally I also use Viber, why?
I remembered that oldie FaceTime is ok too, when my direct client asked for practising. And paid well.

I am a qualified Russian language teacher and 8-10 years ago I used to have 7-10 Skype lessons a week.
I basically stopped after we moved to Australia, firstly because of the time difference (my students were primarily from USA and Europe) and secondly because I've realised that it is more rewarding for me to deliver face-to-face lessons. I only teach 1-2 evenings per week nowadays, and no Skype for me:).

I don't even allow it to load when the system starts. I only turn it on when I need it, then turn it off immediately after the use. Who needs one more thing to interrupt your work? We already have enough of those.
