What's with this zero thing? I live alone, but I have guests, talk on the phone, and talk to my dog. And I am writing in a language all day long.
When my family visits, we speak in Portuguese, and I talk to my helpers in Spanish.

2 on a normal day, at family gatherings 3: English, Italian and German.
When my daughter's husband first met our family, he was amazed to hear us at the table, skipping from one language to another..
They now live in Lausanne, so a bit of French has also crept in.
My son's wife is Romanian, but only the two of them speak the language properly, so it is not added to the mix.

I live alone. One of my daughters visits me almost every day and we always talk in Portuguese. Some of my family has been living abroad (Belgium and England) for a long time and when they visit we tend to speak in French or English, because their Portuguese has become quite rusty…
P.S.: About this zero thing, once in a while I catch myself without having said a single word the whole day…

It's like this. My husband and I speak Portuguese, and the kids reply back in English 😂

Unless my sister's girlfriend is here, when 3-4 languages peacefully share the same space.

I was puzzled by this initially myself - until I realized that the Asker most likely wanted to cover monastic translators who have taken a vow of silence.

I only speak English with my children, my wife speaks Hungarian with them and German is the "Environment" language because we live in Germany.

Nice. I was rather thinking of people who don't talk to each other, or to people like my husband who are so bad at their mother tongue that some might say they don't speak it, they just make noises.

The family language is French and I speak English to my children - who also speak fluent (and often hilarious) franglais, which I try to avoid...

So, when we are together, we only speak Korean.
