They just wanted to make sure that hiring me wouldn't lead them to fall into the same trap again.
Usual complaints:
- late delivery
- no communication / unresponsiveness

Not exactly "complained" (I'm finding it hard to imagine such a situation), but I've been asked to redo poor translations a couple times or take some rush work because the initial translator has vanished... | | |

however, I got paid quite a bit to fix the translation.

In three occasions, I suggested colleagues, upon the client's request, and these colleagues unfortunately did a lousy job. I crossed their names off my list and I'll never indicate them again, of course. In two of the three cases, I had to work very late, till morning rise, to fix their incompetence.
However, other than my own indications, it has never happened, and it would be quite unethical for a client to complain about another colleague.

I’ve just remembered that some two weeks ago one of my long-standing customers asked me to proofread a document translated by another freelancer because the client complained it contained a few mistakes.
