I live alone and some days my own voice is the only human voice around to hear. Talking to myself out loud usually involves just calling myself stupid, so it depends on how many silly mistakes I’m making: it’s kind of a release valve when I'm stressed about something, but I also scream “Eureka” when I happen to solve a problem.
P.S. I also talk to my dog all the time and she knows exactly what I'm saying to her…

Usually when my browser freezes or any other issue arises. Other than that I'm the quiet type of translator.

I talk to myself a lot, or to the backyard critters, but not while I work. It's like my brain uses either one output channel or the other (keyboard or voice), but hardly ever both at the same time.

Don't we all talk to ourselves? I couldn't imagine not doing it at least some of the time. I suppose those who say they never do just aren't very good listeners...
And I talk to the cat when she comes into my study to tell me I have ignored her for too long, but that's another story.

At the uni we role-played dialogues every day, using new words and phrases, so as a translator I often reread different works, comparing L1-L2, finding incongruities and trying to improve some passages. When I started as an interpreter, I often role-played possible questions and answers for our conferences and negotiations, yet now I just occasionally improvise communication with our new members and parties or for very important meetings, keeping alert.

Plus, I respond to most anything else around, from the book shelf that requests "I need dusting", to the contents of the pantry that say "What would you like to eat?", or the invoice that asks "When will you finally pay me?"
