One client has been very quiet - I expected some work from him around September last year. I should send him an email to see if he's OK.

My regular client base has been consistent over the years, but one of my ‘historical’ clients has been sending less work than usual because I refused to lower my rates…

You might simply drop them a line to inform them of an upcoming holiday, then, more importantly, when you come back from the holiday, you remind them that you are now back and willing to work.
Or if you have recently acquired experience or qualifications in a new field, you might send out a message informing them of this.
