Being my own boss, I have no fixed pattern; I take days off here and there, whenever there is no translation work (like today and probably tomorrow). After completing a large project, I always allow myself one or two days off to freshen up.

I don't really take "time off" from translating - I even did a little work yesterday. In 2018 I stopped for just over a week because I was on holiday in the Maldives, but I usually keep ticking over virtually all year round. I am my own boss and don't see myself as being exploited or overworked. If I did, I'd probably have a different approach.

I used to take 2-3 weeks off in a year, but with age I allow myself more time.
My schedule has not been so hectic to last year.

I'm not keeping track (and scheduling is flexible, depending on many factors), but it must be more than one month of time off per year, not counting "weekends". I didn't leave the rat race just to enter it again by my own volition.

If I add all the days in the year when I had no jobs and nothing to do, it will probably add up to a month. But if you are considering entire weeks or periods, then I have no accurate answer for this question.

Hum, last year for example I went for a ten-day visit to my in-laws, where there's practically no internet connection and no laptop, and had to turn down a few jobs during that time. Then in the summer I was at our new second home and didn't do much work at all during that time. I basically decided to only take on work that I could get done in the couple of hours that I'm up before my partner surfaces. I only billed about €300 that month and refused several big jobs.
