Anything related to work comes by e-mail or - very very rarely - by phone call.
My desktop computer receives e-mail, and my ears receive phone rings (when sound is not turned off, that is).
I don't need to look at my phone when working. One screen is enough, thank God.

All my customers contact me by mail. My family contacts me through Skype during the working day only if there is something really urgent. I don’t pay attention at all to notifications on my phone because the sound is turned off. I look at them now and then when I have the time, anyway most are unwanted publicity…

I don't have my phone synched to my main email accounts, or have alerts activated for anything to do with work. Any notifications that come in are usually from friends or family... or spam.
For example, yesterday my daughter messaged me that that she is being made redundant from her job, so obviously I looked at those notifications more assiduously than I normally would.
My phone bleeped just a couple of minutes ago, and prompted by this poll query, I looked at it. It was just an al... It was just an alert from Google, in Spanish, which I have noticed has developed an increasingly right-wing and anti-government stance lately. This time it was a cartoon about the RAE debunking "inclusive language" (niños y ninas, etc., which always seems to me like over egging the pudding). Ho-hum. Another few minutes I'll never get back.

I work for 45 minutes and then have a 10-minute break. Rinse and repeat. I'm part of quite a few work chat groups and if I checked my phone I'd never get any work done. I've taken notifications off WhatsApp on my phone recently and it's been great.

Yes, if the phone is next to me on the desk, I glance towards it whenever the screen lights up, and I check messages when they arrive. It does not interrupt me. That said, I believe for some people to "check" the messages means to read them and reply to them. No, I literally just "check" them, and I read only messages that need to be read, and reply only to messages that require immediate response.

I have switched off all notifications except email and even then I don't look at my phone but go to Outlook to see if I've missed anything important.

Clients, friends and family know to email me. I "live on" my computer, not my phone.
I do own a smartphone, but the ringer is usually off. I typically look at it once every few hours just in case.

I do not consider my phone a working tool. The only notifications I receive on the phone that may be related to work are e-mails and Whastapp messages. So I use both MS Outlook and a desktop version of Whatsapp in my PC. Outlook is open 24 hours, and I check Whatsapp every now and then (in the desktop only) to see if there's anything related to work or family only. I do not ever type messages on the phone.

I make sure I never receive any notifications on my phone. Life is too short.

I only pay attention to translation projects on which I am working, and to my email box.
Anything else other than this will affect your productivity and focus.

When working, you can pay attention to notifications or phone calls unless you are expecting in advance a very urgent message/call (such as news from a sick family member, your technician is coming into your home to fix the cable or wireless connection, you know you won a lottery prize and someone will reach you by phone to let you know where to collect it, etc.)
Sometimes, I forget I have a cell phone!
So, my answer is "never"!

I get the same notifications on my desktop as I would on my phone if it were connected to the Internet, which it isn’t most of the time.

My regular email account only comes in on my computer, not on my phone (though the phone does have an emergency email account). The phone is parked on its pad 6 feet away from me and rarely look at it when I'm working. If a text comes in, I rarely respond until I'm off-duty.
