I don't think many of us have the luxury of procrastinating as everything seems to be urgent.

I don’t procrastinate at work (I can’t say the same about some of my domestic chores). If I happen to have more than one project with similar deadlines I always start with the one I find most difficult, just to get it out of the way…

It's very simple: the sooner I start, the sooner I'm done. The sooner I'm done, the sooner I can move on to the next task or something else.
But I do tend to get a bit lazy sometimes when I do not have very much to do and feel like it can wait, which I occasionally regret – like yesterday when I suddenly received one big project and several smaller ones, all with the same very tight deadline, and also had to squeeze in a few more I could have easily done earlier this week. Not going to happen again anytime soon, I guess!

It's usually impossible with the pace of my order flow Apr 9, 2025

So I usually don't, especially if they only give me editing jobs where I can't say how awful or bearable my next workload will be. It all depends on my mood though; I'm good at catching up so I might procrastinate for a couple of days on a big project. If a Russian has decided not to do anything, nothing can stop him. I'd even have such days (often followed by sleepless nights) as a freelancer, but I'm not one anymore, so I get paid for hours of work and rest alike

I prefer to get going even when the deadline is not too tight, just in case something else comes along.

I did that this week and now I've got well ahead and can relax and do a bit of sewing instead.

I too like to make a start, so there are no unpleasant surprises just before deadline!

However, if I run into a problem and can´t find the solution after a serious effort, I move on. I might send a mail to the client, but it depends on whether that is likely to help! Clients may know terminology immediately, while other questions are my department, not theirs.

I may be lucky and find a clue further on in the job, or I may find my subconscious works it out while I am ´not looking´! The answer may come while I am making coffee or peeling potatoes, or it may take longer, but procrastination is not always a bad thing.

I have even woken up at night after dreaming of an answer! It may be useful, but sometimes the answer is totally garbled when I try to write it down. It is often a good idea to let time work for you if you can. Fastest is not always best.
