But I accidentally pressed 'right' and then saw the results and thought, 'Who’s the psych*path that chose right?' 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
When I edit on paper or on screen I do the same: source file always on the left...

We right-handed people tend to have left-to-right perceptual orientation, but not sure about left-handed people? If some of you is left-handed, let us now.

I place the source text on top and the target below that.

I am left-handed, and I put the source left, too, since I still read from left to right. I think the only ones who do it differently are those with different reading directions, like the Japanese.

Is it being right-handed that's leading people to put the source text on the left, or is it the fact that our languages are written left to right? I'd be curious to hear from an Arabic linguist or another non-left-to-right language if they do the same.

| The source file is on the left | Apr 22, 2025 |
The source file on the left is the most convenient way to me so far, if possible. However, sometimes I also place the source text on top and the target below that.

Our Arabic colleague above said they put source/target up and down.
I don’t think it’s about reading only, it’s about visual field direction vs. hands/motorics or eye to hand coordination. As lefties hold their computer mouse in the left hand, I immediately thought their perception may be reversed, like the mirror effect and they would put a “important thing” to the left (in our case the target file). To this effect, there are some research reports online.
As we sit down, we will place our phone on the table to the right. There is no reading involved here, we do it instinctively.
