Absolutely not! May 10, 2025

Last year ‘Slator’ asked the same question. I’m in the ‘Absolutely not’ group. We’ll see if the findings are different now:

Yes May 10, 2025

I've gazed into my crystal ball and I can confirm: the term "Translator" will disappear over the next 5 years. More specifically it will be gone by tomorrow. A black hole will swallow it.

The term 'translator' probably won't disappear May 10, 2025

But the profession as such almost certainly will.

MT post-editors will still call themselves "translators", won't they?

No May 10, 2025

In English, at least, we still use terms such as cooper, farrier and fletcher, although not many people make a healthy living performing these crafts.

No, the term “translator” will not disappear May 10, 2025

but it will be eviscerated of any real meaning. Like being turned into some weird addition to Newspeak ...

The trend has already started with people who think that merely copy-pasting an automated word output is 'your own contribution' to anything ...

How would MT bots be called without the T? May 15, 2025

Currently, MT stands for Machine Translation, so the MT bots are the machine translators, right?

Blogs related to tech-plugins for apps/webs and such usually refer to “Google Translator” or “ChatGPT translator,” so if the term disappears, how would these algorithms be called in the next few years?

IMHO, the term will be more used than ever.
