After a significant increase that made me double my earnings since I started in the year 2005, my earnings are more or less stable since the last 5 years. That means that I'm affected by inflation.
But I don't care about that yet, because the only thing I'm interested in is a minimum goal that is still heavily surpassed until now.
All the other things mentioned don't affect my work at all for now. | | | | | Other (some of the above) | Jun 15, 2025 |

Yes, after Covid things have changed again with the war between Russia and Ukraine and I suppose they will worsen with what is happening now in the Middle East. ▲ Collapse | | | | Mario Chávez Соединети Американски Држави Local time: 13:13 англиски на шпански + ... | Almost all of the above | Jun 15, 2025 |
If we are to thrive as professionals and functioning adults, we need to let go of one-answer-fits-all approaches. See more If we are to thrive as professionals and functioning adults, we need to let go of one-answer-fits-all approaches. It's minimalist, reductive and worse, it's postmodernist, that line of thinking that is more interested in tearing down past and current solutions (with some interesting analysis, granted) but offering nearly nothing as a substitute.
And factors that affect our work (the adverb “mostly” is unnecessary), for better or for worse, are never a single one. There can be primary factors, secondary factors. For example, one of the primary factors that impacted my freelance translation/interpretation work in the late 90s was geography, losing the proximity to local clients, on whom I had depended for so long. Going from New York City to a Los Angeles exurb stretched that proximity but I still lost nearly half of my clientele. Another factor was miscalculated expenses: buying a car, paying car insurance, spending driving time to get things done when back in New York City I had been able to invest my travel time thanks to public transportation.
So in the above example, geography was a primary cause, car expenses a secondary one. And some factors can affect some of us more deeply or catastrophically than other groups of colleagues. I often think of a largely primary factor that has been both a blessing and a harbinger of disaster since the 90s: the globalization of the internet. ▲ Collapse | | |

Inflation has cooled down over the past year. In Europe and the US, it was high between 2022 and 2024 (although the long-term impact still persists). | | | | Lieven Malaise Белгија Local time: 19:13 Член (2020) француски на холандски + ...
