I have what some colleagues would consider totally out of the question: a single 17 inches screen. I am quite used to it and it has served me fine! I bought it 3 years ago with a higher resolution than the previous one. Occasionally I set up my laptop beside my main screen.

I want it to be large enough, but not too large. No giant sreens for me.
I think the smartphone poll option is curious. I would never dream of translating through such device.
| Large. My laptop is not ideal | Oct 14, 2025 |
I need to be able to read the fine print, so a large screen with good resolution. It must have plenty of space for the divided screen when I use Trados!
My laptop is big enough for working on the move and not handy for carrying, but I prefer an even larger desktop screen when I am seriously at work.

Until March 2025:
iMac with 27" monitor plus 23" Apple monitor on the side. Both connected to form one seamless desktop.
Now:
Mac Mini M4, a 23" LG monitor plus a 23" Philips monitor, both connected to form one seamless desktop.
I played with the idea to get one curved 43/47" monitor, but dismissed it. Not sure my eyes would appreciate it.

One 22" screen on my left-hand side and one 24" straight in front of me.
My face is about 80 cm away from their surface, therefore screen addiction can't reach me.

I am currently working with two 27-inch FHD monitors (as well as my laptop's own 17-inch screen, but I'm not using it for actual work; it's where I park Tidal).
I have found that this is my ideal setup. Anything bigger would be too much while anything smaller would be too crowded for my taste.
Genuinely interested in what those who chose "I don't use monitors" are using.

My setting is a Mac Mini with a 27'' Asus PB monitor and a backup mini pc with a 24'' monitor from the same (old) Asus series, with both monitors being top in terms of brightness, eye-friendliness and colour reproduction.
This setting allows displaying two Word pages side by side when required, a file page and a browser page or two browser pages side by side and large enough for easy reading.

During a large project I've been involved in I learned there are actually people working on their phones! They were doing this as a side job, but still - the project involved reading extensive style guides and using Phrase on those tiny displays...

How did they even read the question?

I am used to circa 15'' notebooks monitors. Had mini laptop - Acer Aspire One but they are just too small for anything serious.

Two monitors are essential, regardless of size. I use two 17-inch.

Got used to a 42" TV used as monitor.
Won't be going back. | | | |
| 27 inches is the sweet spot | Oct 15, 2025 |
A monitor larger than 27 inches is synonymous with pain. If you play video games, the more inches the better; otherwise, no matter what people say, it's not.

This is my criterion: two pages side by side, in large enough type to read easily. For me, that means a 32-inch LG TV, connected via HDMI.

I, too, am curious about this.

That's quite large, over 1 meter diagonal. Out of curiosity, how do you manage working with such a large monitor, for example at what distance (with that diagonal, it should be around 1,5 m)?

How do I manage?
It's more the other way round. I ask myself how did I manage in the past with what now looks to me like toy monitors. A large monitor can fill the central part of one's field of vision without any need to almost stick your nose to the screen.
Anything between 1 and 2 meters is fine as viewing distance. For me 'the ease of use' simply bears no comparison with what I used before.
