I don't have a crystal ball, and at present the global situation is so uncertain that I wouldn't venture to guess...
2025 was very difficult. I've been doing this for almost 20 years, not as an on-the-side gig, but as my chosen career, and I've never seen anything like it. I mainly work for the UN, and after several years of very fruitful cooperation with several offices under the UN umbrella, everything came to a screeching halt after the new US administration came into power, which coupled with the hype around AI, the new tariffs and all the rest conjured up a perfect storm which I was barely able to survive... It was six months in a row with almost no work. Terrifying, morally shattering and mentally decimating.
Things picked up speed (big time) in the second semester, and the year is ending on a positive note. I used the first six months of inactivity to actively (or I'd say, obsessively) market my services and I created a few business leads which I'm planning to follow up on in 2026. I'm planning to add DTP to my services, and I've already been contacted by clients with offers for 2026. There's still work out there. The difference is that it takes much, much more effort to get it. And it's easy to despair. I've been there, and I really feel for the people who are going through rough patches now.
Anyways, I don't lose hope. Nothing lasts forever, good or bad. The bad seems to last much longer, but it doesn't. It's just the constant ebbs and flows of life. The best is yet to come!
Enjoy the holidays!!

I am always positive despite the circumstances. I think that it is a time of reflection, changes, explore new horizons, but never give up. Likewise, I have very faithful clients, and I hope that they want to continue working with me for a long time! Finger crossed!

Been let go back in 2024, had my salary late for half of 2025. Now currently working for 2 companies concurrently as a freelance contractor. It literally cannot get worse than what it has been in 2024-2025 for me. Right?
Unless they let AI take all the work and shutdown the entire industry wholesale it cannot be worse than being let go and have your salary be late for half a year.

That's the problem with the English language's dominance.
POTUS's policies, cutting all non-English linguistic services, had a huge impact on the US language industry.
Then, of course, the AI hype and the tariffs didn't help either, but IMO, they aren't the main problem.
Next year has US mid-term elections, so it will be interesting to see how the communities of migrants and non-native citizens vote. | | | | WolfgangS Франција Local time: 11:18 англиски на германски + ...
