My work load increases dramatically in November and December. Then it all comes to a standstill in January. Maybe all these clients are doing their end of the year rush.
| year-end race | Dec 6, 2006 |
It's the monthly equivalent of the Friday phenomenon - everyone seems to want to get things wrapped up before the end of the year.
But I don't mind - goes hand in hand with all the spending I do at this time of year

As for my language pair, there is no pattern at all across the months of the year.

It often starts in Sept/Oct an then increases steadily until mid-December.
During the first two weeks of December we get a "double Friday ration" every day. Clients are like panic-struck because they have "discovered" some important documents, or even need a 64 page brochure translated before 31st Dec and so on. Quite a few enquiries which are simply not possible.

| Only got two hands ............ | Dec 6, 2006 |
Can't do more than I do volume-wise in any given month, regardless of year-end demand, so for me it effectively stays the same.

but I have to agree with Lawyer-Linguist, I can´t take on more than I can handle...
Last year, I had a few inquiries to work on/over the actual Christmas day(s) but I definitely declined those.

the race also beings every Sept./Oct. right to the last day before Christmas (23.12.). It seems as if everyone finds out what still has to be done to have a good and quiet time during the Chrismas holidays (company holiday up to the New Year).
And January will be veeery quiet, with almost no inquiries at all.

Even that it goes crazy in December. Then plummets in January. Tantalizes in February. Thankfully, back to normal by March
| It really increase! | Dec 6, 2006 |
Fortunately my workload increase in high proportion.
It's because I have more time to spend in translations, especially because in this month I am on vacation.
So, you can handle more translations at the same time.

I see the same pattern from so many different places. I can already say that I too have already been and am going to continue to be busy all through December, as usual. Then most likely January will be a lot less hectic.

| Stays the same | Dec 6, 2006 |
But I always get 2-week+ projects that span the holiday season. I should be on a 25k chunk from 14 Dec until 4 Jan to close this year.
As long as I can have 25 Dec, 1st Jan (even 2 Jan if the hangover is really bad) and WEs off, I don't mind.
Best wishes,

On principle, I usually work Dec. 25 the same as any other day, unless it falls on a weekend. It's tricky enough finding time to take off my own holidays. If I start adding other people's I'll never get anything done.

...then I could do all the work I am being offered each year in December - and sooner or later become a millionnaire!
Alas, I only have 10 fingers and can't use them all simultaneously. So we'll just stick with working full time and overtime. Maybe one day, I will learn to speed-talk and Dragon will be able to follow and I will make my year in just a month. 'Till then - Happy Holidays!
